Update on a Sauk River Dog...Koda

Thought I'd share an e-mail received last month. Jane and I receive lots and lots of "good-dog" e-mails... and a few from folks who have problems too. The following represents the vast majority of response we receive from owners of Sauk River Dogs. As a Breeder, it feels good to see a dog play a role in helping a family to enjoy the outdoors... as described in the letter below.

Good morning Jane and Dave,

I hope this E-mail finds everyone in the Mork family doing well this cold winter. Some feedback on our female (Sauk River’s “Koda”) from your litter back in April 06 is long overdue. At about 6 months old, I sent Koda over to a local pro where she spent a month going through his Puppy Head Start program. Since then we have just completed her second full season of upland hunting and I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the caliber of dog I received. At 55 lbs, Koda moves like a bounding deer through the field with a level of athletic stamina unmatched by my other labs and equal only to other pure pointing breeds I have hunted over. She also has by far the best nose of any lab I have ever owned and consistently wind scents and points upland game from a great distance. Some days I’d swear she’s a shorthair in lab’s clothing.

As you may remember from our earlier conversations, my extended family has owned and trained labs all our lives, especially my 77-year-old father. With his last dog being gone for more than 4 years, he had started to loose interest in getting out in the field, but with the introduction of Koda these past seasons, his interest to get out and watch a good dog work birds has been renewed. For this alone, I want to again thank you for having the opportunity to purchase such a fine specimen of pointing lab.

The Olson Family

As always, we are enjoying the many e-mails from owners updating us on how their Sauk River dogs are doing. Hunter reports from Sauk River owners during the 2008 upland / waterfowl seasons tell us that we are producing strong pointing, hard charging upland dogs who are also hitting the water hard, and are valued companions / family members. Thank you for the updates. Please continue to stay in touch as the seasons progress to the Southern states.

To new owners of Sauk River pups this year... Jane and I are here to assist you now and in the future with any training questions you may have. We do appreciate the pictures and stories you send from your days afield.
